Thesis project from The Animation Workshop 2017
In 1917 Denmark sold their Caribbean colony the Danish Westindies to USA for 25 million dollars in gold. The territory was renamed The Virgin Islands, and the era of Danish colonial exploits vanished from the collective memory of this people of the North. A 100 years later, Sofie, a young Dane, travels to The Virgin Islands to meet with Khury, an activist from Boston, whose enslaved ancestors were the property of the Danish Petersen family.
In March 2017 I spent 10 days in St. Croix with Khury Petersen-Smith, an activist from Boston. We began to explore a common past, that none of us had payed much attention to before - for very different reasons.
The book was finished in June 2017 and was printed in 18 copies on riso.
